The Most Magical Day of My Life

I just want to say, having a grown up job really gets in the way of telling all of my readers (both of you) all about my fabulous vacation.  ANYWAY!  Where did I leave off...

As if the 3 AM rock concert were not loud enough...the hotel was also undergoing construction, which started at 7AM...we got a lot of sleep in that place.  But the good part about waking up so early means we had plenty of time to do activities!  But before any of that could happen, coffee.  I think the thing I missed most while I was there was a strong, giant cup of coffee.  They kept intermittently bringing me tiny cups of coffee that contained two sips at most...I just wanted her to leave the pot there.  But, I took the time in between coffee to eat the blood.  I don't even really love meat...and I ate. the blood.  If you trick your brain into thinking you aren't eating the body fluid that keeps things alive, it kind of tastes like a sausage mixed with a hash brown.  Alas, I could only fool myself for so long...so that's a one and done kind of thing.

Next, we went to Kilmainham Gaol.  It's a former prison where Irish rebels were held and now it's a museum/occasional filming location.  Really very cool, and kind of spooky to think about all of the executions that happened there.  Fun fact?  There was a U2 video filmed there. For all of the U2 fans.

After the jail, we stopped for a lunchtime Guinness and then explored all of Dublin.  Okay, maybe it wasn't all of Dublin, but it sure felt that way.  We saw the Molly Malone statue, and had crab in Temple Bar...okay he had crab, I had wine.  The last thing I needed was for my face to swell up due to that delicious shellfish.  Then we walked through St. Stephen's Green and saw many people getting it on in the open air of the park.  And then...

Drum roll, please...

WE FOUND MY BOYFRIEND!!!

No, I'm not talking about Prash, I mean, he was there, but I'm talking about my dead gay boyfriend.  There are literally not enough words in the English language to express my love for the magic who is Oscar Wilde.  I was really trying to get up on that rock...but it was for a person a great deal more agile than I.

The best thing about Ireland is the multitude of Oscar Wilde books in every single book store I went into.  I actually said aloud on at least 5 separate occasions, "I guess I really don't need another copy of Dorian Gray."...except the solution is that you can never have enough copies of Dorian Gray.  I think a fifth copy may need to make an appearance in my collection...but, I digress.

After hanging out with my manfriend for a while, we headed back to the center of Dublin for dinner.  We had dinner at a really cool place that I can't remember the name of, but it looked like a tunnel on the inside...and it's beside the Bach place...why is Prash asleep, he would know.  Anyway, we played trivia there and that was fun.  By played, I mean I just shouted out answers even though I wasn't officially in the game.  Because that is how I roll.

After dinner, we saw the world's most wonderful rainbow and took it as a sign to go back to Temple Bar for one more night of fun...and fun it was.

Outside of one of the bigger bars, there was a man, on a bicycle betting very drunk people that they could not ride said bicycle 30 ft across cobblestones.  He had loosened the handlebars so it looked pretty difficult.  He did, however, bet the winner 40 Euro.  We stuck around to watch one girl attempt, and it was just so sad.  Hilarious.  But sad.

After that it was more of the same from the night before.  We just hung out, listened to live music, drank whiskey and beer, blah blah blah.  But then!  Then, my friends, I was introduced to Supermac's.  Prash got very excited the first time he saw it and said we had to go there.  So we went there.  I mean...it kind of was just like McDonalds...I guess it was kind of better?  But he really enjoyed it, so why not!

That was about it for our trip to Dublin.  It was magical and wonderful and I hope to do it again very soon.
