We're On A Boat!

So, when we were deciding where to go on our trip, I wanted a place with pretty beaches and not many
people because tourists are annoying (yes, I realize I am technically a tourist).  We spent hours googling and found the island of Vis and I fell in love.  So, we decided to spend four days on a tiny island in the Adriatic Sea.  I might also add that we bought really cheap "Ray Bans" from a street vendor, so we were feeling super cool.

It was about 2 hours by boat and a lovely view.  Well okay, if you looked at the water it was a lovely view.  But there was a guy wearing short shorts with his legs spread all about...avert your eyes.  Trust me on that one.  But! when we got to Vis it all made sense why I wanted to go there.  It did look just like the pictures on the internet, and there weren't many people, or much of anything.  All of these things add up to a post-grad vacation dream.  It would have only been dreamier if we had a boat...one day.  One day.

The house owner met us at the port and he had was probably the sweetest old man I've ever met.  He drove us back to the house and got set up and as he was leaving he said, "I saved the red room for the young couple, eh?!"...crickets...haha just kidding, it was more an awkward chuckle, but I'm not complaining because the view from the room was fantastic.  He filled us in on the town and gave suggestions on where to go, what to see, and what to eat.

I would like to say that approximately 10 minutes later I was changed and ready for the beach, but lets be honest, I had been dressed for the beach since 7 am.  But first we had lunch at a restaurant approximately 10 steps from the water as well as assorted yachts.  It was nice and relaxing.  However, as a student with a library tan (read: no tan at all), I was ready to get to the beach.  We wandered for a while in the direction the house owner told us to and we found Plaža Grandovac.  This would quickly become my favorite (and most convenient) tanning spot.  We also quickly discovered that people like to get naked on Vis beaches...so there's that for anyone who was wondering.  My only complaint was that I missed sand beaches because rocks (pebbles, whatever) hurt and flip flops float.

I was prepared to stay out there for hours, and actually fell asleep, and woke up to find the Mancub like that.  Apparently my tanning makes him bored and throw rocks...and make faces like that when he thinks I can't see.  So, we called it a day and went back to the apartment to get ready for dinner...or at least ready to make sandwiches and find dinner.  We went to a place recommended by many, Kod Paveta...yeah maybe don't go here.  The food took forever and wasn't delicious.  The Mancub was pretty disappointed...and in fact when I just asked him what it was called, he reiterated his hatred for that place.

After dinner, we explored Vis town some more, it wasn't very big, so we didn't have much to see that we hadn't seen before.  We ended up sitting on a dock (again) watching the sunset (again) while deciding what there is to do.  THEN! we found a sign for an outdoor cinema and it was like it was meant to be.  Not really, it was just the only thing to do at night on the island.  So we went and saw the movie Flight.  It was good, but I was from then on terrified that every time I fly my pilot did a line and downed some mini bottles...and that was pretty upsetting so I got scared and cried a little.  I hate flying.  Anyway, our first day in Vis was a success, at least for me, we also ate a lot of ice cream.  But that's par for the course because we were on vacation and who doesn't love ice cream? WHO?

That was the end of Vis: Day 1, so I will leave you with this picture of the sunset:
